KARONGA

Karonga is a township in the Karonga District in Northern Region of Malawi. Located on the western shore of Lake Nyasa. The town is a lake port gateway for many travellers going to northern part Malawi which borders with Tanzanian. Karonga was formerly a slave centre sometime before 1877 for the Arab slaver, Mlozi but has since grown to be a commercial centre. Karonga has agriculture as its major economic base. The museum has exhibitions chronicling the history of the area. Karonga is fondly referred to as Malawi’s fossil district.
